Powder Coating a Wide Range of Products

Powder coating spray booths are designed for a wide range of products including:

  1. Complex shaped parts
  2. Very long parts
  3. Parts requiring low film builds
  4. Parts requiring high film builds
  5. Very large or small parts

KMI Systems typically installs powder coating booths in an environmental "clean room" to ensure trouble free powder application and dirt free parts. "Clean rooms" are equipped with automatic climate control systems designed to maintain an environment at optimal coating conditions.

Powder Coating Room and Powder Conditioning

Powder Room and Powder Conditioning
The powder room houses powder coating spray booths. The powder room is where the ambient air in the room is maintained at constant and uniform conditions (temperature and humidity) through out the day and thoughout all areas of room all year long in order to provide ideal powder paint or enamel application conditions. It is constructed from modular insulated panels and all internal surfaces are reasonably smooth for easy cleaning.

Powder conditioning

Powder conditioning provides a controlled atmosphere for better powder coating application and superior cured finish appearance. The air conditioning system has to maintain temperature between 65° to 75°F ±2°F and humidity between 45% to 65% ±3% RH under full load.

The powder room is maintained under positive pressure to prevent airborne contaminants entering through the part openings. Design air velocity through the openings and door is maintained at about 125 fpm. The supply registers are uniformly distributed through the room and are sized for air velocity not to exceed 150 fpm. The return air is filtered to prevent powder as small as 2 microns from entering the exchanger coil.

Material handling equipment for powder coating systems can be monorail, power & free, spindle or cross-bar conveyors to allow for a multilevel compact space saving design.

Fluidized Bed Systems

Fluidized bed systems can be designed to apply PVC or nylon to fabricated wire products. These systems incorporate the latest equipment innovations to apply powders uniformly at minimal operating cost while offering long equipment life.
