Drying & Curing

A wide range of drying and curing systems can be configured to ensure uniform curing and no discolorations to deliver the highest quality coating finish. KMI designs and builds a full selection of dry-off ovens, curing ovens or UV curing systems for temperature sensitive/ambient requirements.

Water Dry-off

Completely remove the residue water film the parts after they leave the cleaning machine. This is especially important for applications where powder paints or solvent based paints are applied shortly after the parts leave the dryoff. The dryoff can be constructed as a convection oven or dehumidification dryer.

Curing Oven

Cure parts uniformly and completely without discoloration or dirt rejects. Cure oven heating systems gradually and steadily raise the part temperature from the ambient temperature before the parts enter the oven up to the oven set point temperature. Once the parts reach the set point they will be maintained within 2 to 3% of this set point temperature from the top to the bottom of the parts for the remaining conveyor path in the oven.

Oven Construction

Our ovens are of a modular design using interlocking oven panels containing non-settling, non-combustible, non-asbestos type industrial insulation rated for 500ºF. These oven panels are supported by a substantial structural steel framework that is designed with an allowance to prevent uncontrolled expansion from repeated heat up and cool down cycles.

Oven Configurations

Roof Mounted Oven

Roof mounted ovens can be used if there is inadequate space within the factory, an outside cure oven complex addition is a solution. This typically includes a weather-proof heater equipment control room attached to one side of the oven for easy service. The oven can be elevated to allow full bottom entry and exit. A cooling tunnel under the oven provides an efficient use of space.

Floor Mounted Oven

Floor mounted ovens have a high volume/low velocity fan to develop air seals that minimize the heat and fumes from escaping through conveyor openings.

Elevated Oven

Elevated ovens can be used if floor space is limited.  A structural steel frame can be constructed to allow a bottom entry/exit oven installation on a platform.

Batch Type Oven

Parts are towed into the oven by the floor conveyor, the doors close and fans start. Custom designed small gas fired or electrical batch ovens can be the solution for special applications.

Infrared Oven

Gas fired infrared ovens offer quick part heating. Part geometry must be appropriate for this infrared heating.

Combination IR/Convection Oven 

Infrared burners provide quick heat upwhile the convection zone completes the drying or curing process.

Heating Systems

Heating systems incorporate temperature and burner controls to regulate our heating systems which are designed to be in compliance with FM or IRI, NFPA, OSHA, state and local codes. Some of the heating system types available include:

Nozzle-Mix Oven Burner

A nozzle-mix oven burner can be equipped with “washable” filter-silencers to help keep airborne dust out of the heater box and oven, while reducing burner noise levels.

KMI’s unique “Scroll Heaters”

"Scroll Heaters" provides maximum efficiency by locating the circulation fans on the cold-side of the burner and completely enclosing the fan wheels in a fan scroll. The burner flame is also fully enclosed in such a way that the burner flame does not cause heater box deterioration common with other less effective designs.

Ultra Low andLow NOx Heating System

The clean-burning design of the Low NOx and Ultra Low NOx burners we have included allows for the NOx and CO emissions to be extremely low. The Ultra low NOx burners are guaranteed to operate at less than 20 PPM of NOx and typically, as installed by KMI in our scroll-type heater ovens, the NOx emissions at the oven exhaust stacks will be in the 1.5 to 3 PPM range.
